Introducing ALUCOBOND® COOL
The Alucobond Cool coating system offers higher solar reflectivity than other cladding material letting you realize potential energy savings while enjoying the choice of a color palette that ranges from bold and bright to deep and dark.
Alucobond Cool Systems are created utilizing a PVDF (Polyvinylidene Flouride) finish system. Not only does this new technology offer higher solar reflectivity but the finish is also enhanced by providing:
Longer-lasting color life and chalk resistance
Superior corrosion resistance
Exceptional chemical, humidity and salt-spray resistance
With proven environmental advantages over non-cool finishes and products, Cool technology already qualifies for LEED credits in roofing applications, and similar certifications are expected for its use in vertical applications.
The finishes require little maintenance, and most surface contaminants can be removed using conventional detergents or cleaning solvents.
The solar reflectivity of Alucobond cladding is measured by each colors Solar Reflectance Index (SRI).
The Solar Reflectance Index is a measure of a finish's ability to reject solar heat, as shown by a small temperature rise. It is defined so that a standard black (reflectance 0.05, emittance 0.90) is zero (0) and a standard white (reflectance 0.80, emittance 0.90) is 100.
For example, the standard black has a temperature rise of 90o Fahrenheit (50o Celsius) in full sunlight, and the standard white has a temperature rise of 14.6o Fahrenheit (8.1oCelsius). Once the maximum temperature rise of a given material has been determined, the SRI can be computed by interpolating between the values for white and black.
Materials with the highest SRI values are the coolest choices for cladding. Due to the way SRI is defined, particularly hot materials can even take slightly negative values, and particularly cool materials can exceed 100.
