Sustainable Hotel Blends Into Lush Surroundings In Eastern Uruguay With Mirrored Exterior

A beautiful new hotel in eastern Uruguay is settled within a unique and privileged ecosystem. Amidst the wild mountains, the Sacromonte Landscape Hotel is tucked within the 250-acre landscape of the Maldonado region. The modular hotel by local architects MAPA is a camouflaged sustainable retreat.

As the architects describe, the hotel is, “…where sophistication and originality coexist in a new landscape experience.” To strategically blend into its lush surroundings, the hotel features a green-roofing system and a mirrored exterior façade. The hotel complex as a whole features 13 individual cabins, a winery and a farm-to-table restaurant.

The complex was prefabricated in its entirety off-site as one of its many environmentally friendly initiatives. The prefabrication not only reduced the project’s environmental footprint but also enabled prompt construction, taking only 10 weeks in a factory in Montevideo.

The project features an abundance of sustainable attributes from locally sourced materials to eco-friendly interior systems. The exterior utilizes low E-glass and locally sourced timber and stone. Additionally, the hotel’s wastewater treatment is eco-minded.

The cabins feature an impressive mirrored exterior on one side, which is used to camouflage the structure, making the hotel a complementary addition to the landscape. While the rear of the cabins is more rustic, featuring the locally sourced stonework.
Everything from the materials used on the hotel to its size and height were approached with a subtlety meant to be mindful of the environment.

The warm, inviting environment flows into the interiors where the cabins were designed with oak-paneled walls and dark stone flooring. Each cabin features a private deck and pool for ample enjoyment of the surroundings.

And as the perfect finishing touch, the hotel offers guests a taste of nature allowing them to eat fruits and vegetables grown around the property. The indigenous landscape is experienced through the architect’s decision to complement and not deter from the picturesque scenery that surrounds the hotel.
